Module 1

First of all, I love that most of our learning is online. This allows us so much flexibility and ensures that we be self disciplined and actually know what we will be doing before going into the lab to put our learning into practice.

Going through the week 1 module gave an insight into consent and the many different health assessments that health professionals must do.

We are taught that informed consent is a crucial aspect of communication between a patient and their healthcare professional. An informed consent requires us, the healthcare provider, to give all necessity information to the patient in order for them to be able to make the best choice of treatment or service for them.

Measuring vitals in the lab provided us with some essential practice opportunities to correct any errors we may make. We were also told to practice communicating and letting our “patient” know what we are doing at every step and why we may be doing it.

The online module also opened my eyes to the knowledge that, as nurses, we can be the middle-man between the patient and the service provider. As such, it is extremely important that we do our best in getting the correct information and filling out forms so no mistakes are made with the patients service. This is one of the most important aspect of communication, in my view, as the forms and the information on them enable the service provider to administer the correct treatment while allowing us to provide the client with the best service.
